Collaborative research actions: promoting cross-disciplinary collaborations

Inria's collaborative research actions (ARC) allow several research teams and other organisations to work together to open up promising new fields of collaboration. They encourage the formation of new synergies between complementary approaches and research subjects. Twelve collaborative research actions were approved in 2010, spanning fields such as health, the environment and virtual reality. We take a look at these projects, which touch upon multiple fields of research.

The teaching and research chairs

Since 2008, Inria has been supporting a new form of partnership: teaching and research chairs. Working in collaboration with scientific and industrial partners, these chairs are aimed at strengthening fields that are crucial for technological development and innovation. This collaboration has already given rise to two ambitious projects: a research chair with Schneider Electric and a chair with the Ecole Polytechnique and the EADS foundation.

Research - Scientific awareness

Scientific and technology awareness

Promoting the understanding and appropriation of scientific knowledge by a wide audience is a recognised necessity, in a world where science and technical considerations play a major role in terms of economics and society. As such, in keeping with its strategic objectives, Inria conducts numerous scientific awareness actions, aimed both at young people and the general public.

Developing computer science research together

Since its creation, the Inria Sophia Antipolis - Méditerranée Research Centre has worked with its partners within the science park and the region to develop a mode of cooperation based on the creation of Inria project-teams. Today, half of these teams are joint teams with academic partners. Around thirty of them are hosted within the Inria Sophia Antipolis - Méditerranée premises, five are based at partner sites in Montpellier, and one in Marseilles. In 2010, an Inria project-team was created with the University of Bologna, where it is hosted.
