Last rehearsal before the post-Moore era

The rapid evolution in the silicium technology which has ruled the IT industry in recent decades, in accordance with Moore’s Law, is reaching its end.

The problem of scarcity is set to emerge within a decade or two from now. What changes will this mean to IT research? How can more computations be achieved on a fixed energy budget and a fixed transistor budget?

Marc Snir – Michael Faiman’s and Saburo Muroga’s professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and associate director of Extreme Scale Computing at the NCSA – will take you to the heart of his thinking. 

This talk will address the premises of this change and outline the resulting research issues.
