Human-Computer Interaction in Four Seasons, by Joëlle Coutaz

Joëlle Coutaz is a professor at Grenoble 1 University and a member of the Human-Computer Interaction Engineering team at the Grenoble Laboratory (LIG). Her interests include the software architecture of interactive systems, multimodal interaction including mixed reality, and, within the framework of ubiquitous computing, user interface plasticity and end-user development.

Joëlle Coutaz has written two books on the software aspects of human-computer interaction and has published over 100 articles in the field. She is a founder member of the AFIHM (the Francophone Human-Computer Interaction Association) and of France's foremost Human-Computer Interaction team. She also provides expert advice to the European Commission. In 2007, she was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science by the University of Glasgow and was elected a member of ACM's SIGCHI Academy for “leadership in the profession in Computer-Human Interaction”.

Recently, at the joint request of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, she co-chaired a working group on the creation of a research programme in Ambient Intelligence, a multidisciplinary field presenting a plethora of scientific and technical challenges.
